Black Rock Desert
Part of the The Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area, the Black Rock Desert contains a variety of varied terrain from a desperately flat playa to rugged mountain ranges rimmed with hot springs. Located in the northern part of Nevada, the Black Rock is a beatiful place and not nearly as sterile as first appearances suggest. If you want to learn more about this beautiful area I suggest going to The Friends of the Black Rock/High Rock website. A non-profit conservation and education group, The Friends of the Black Rock/High Rock are a good source of information if you plan to visit this wonderful land. Consider joining or donating so that they can continue to help preserve what is truely an unusual and unique treasure.
Death Valley National Park
With a record temperature in 1917 of 134F/57C Death Valley can be a formidable place in the summer. Home to the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea-level and to such heights as Telescope Peak at 11,049 feet, Death Valley is a land of extremes. Here are some shots of my recent visit.
Latest Trip to Death Valley National Park
Here are some pictures from a recent trip to Death Valley. I spent one night on one of the alluvial fans on the west side of the valley and finally made it to Ubehebe Crater. Racetrack Playa, next time!!!
